The race route was an improvement on last year as it was possible to exclude the Hamriya Port loop. This year the route took in the sights of Al Badia and the Four Seasons Golf Club.
The start and finish of the race was in the area next to the Somerset Serviced Apartments behind the Al Jadaf Nurseries.
The first leg headed towards the Al Wasl Hospital before crossing the highway at the Wafi Shopping Centre to the change over at the Grand Cinema's car park (Change 1).
The relay then continued along the traditional route beside the Creekside Park, past Dubai Law Courts (Change 2), the British Embassy and Sheikh Saeed's old Palace to the mouth of the Creek at Port Rashid (Change 3).
It was then through the Al Shindaga pedestrian tunnel and a return to traditions along the Creek to the Chamber of Commerce (Change 4), past Maktoum Bridge, City Centre before reaching the Honda Showroom in Festival City (Change 5).
From the Honda Showroom the chalk marks led past IKEA and then left at the Green Panda and out on to the main road before the changeover at the Petrol Station (Change 6). It was then into Al Badia and along past the scenic Four Season's Golf Course and Club House. The route led into the overflow car park area next to Festival City for the final changeover (Change 7). It was then along the Festival City promenade in front of the Shopping Centre and the Intercontinental Hotel before joining the old route at Business Bay Bridge.
It was then across the bridge before heading to the finish line.
There were 26 Teams in this years event including the family team of Blincow 183 (only 3 this year).
This was a little better than last year and as the run route continues to improve more of the southern end of the Creek should become accessible in future years.
It is expected that the 2010 route will also improve with much more of the Creek area near the Flamingo Reserve becoming accessible again.
The "Circle" and Prize Giving was conducted in a discreet fenced area where the old Nurseries used to be.
Who knows what will happen in future years however the area might remain accessible due to the slowdown of the Dubai economy..
The RA of the day was Sucker and as usual he had many stories of the mornings relay.
He then awarded Prizes as per the results above. (carefully selected cases of beer, Champagne and Wine)
A cases of beer and a bottle of wine were also awarded to Blincow 183 for continuing their tradition as the only family team in the history of the event (although only 3 of them this year).
The Creek Hash thanks everybody who participated and to the Marshals and Helpers who helped keep this great event alive despite the changed conditions.
See you all, plus more in 2010.
